McConnell Approach

What is McConnell approach?
McConnell approach provides training for physical therapists, athletic trainers and other health care practitioners to improve the management of chronic musculoskeletal problems. The concepts developed by Australian physiotherapist Jenny McConnell are ****d on an understanding of the influence of posture on dynamic activities as a causative factor for musculoskeletal symptoms and the beneficial effects of unloading soft tissue, usually with tape, to immediately decrease pain and optimize treatment effects.
The McConnell Approach is built on the following foundations:
Understanding the symptoms
Understanding the causative factors
Addressing each of these using tape and specific muscle training
The five-day course will cover the following topics:
LBP
Anatomy and biomechanics of the spine
Static and dynamic posture observation
Evaluate the effect of gait on the lumber spine mechanics
Assessment of the mobility of the anterior hip joint strictures, thoracic strictures and lumber spine
Strategies to decrease patient's symptoms by taping
Using biofeedback for muscle training
Knee
Assessment of patella and tape into correct alignment
Specific VMO training with biofeedback
Shoulder
Static and dynamic posture of the upper extremity
Taping the shoulder for different impairments
Using biofeedback to train the right muscles
Foot
Evaluation of static and dynamic lower limb
Evaluation of forefoot and rear foot
Modification of certain postures with specific taping
Tape for different pathologies
What do I get when I attend McConnell approach course?
In general, attendees will learn the following:
A framework for biomechanical assessment of a patient
A framework to solve complex musculoskeletal problems
An ability to provide patients with simple strategies so they can manage themselves
In addition, the attendees will receive the following:
Course attendance
Course reading materials
Luxurious wheel bag with stationeries
Course required materials (pre-tapes, adhesive tapes,….etc)
5 lunch meals
All day long beverages
Gala dinner on a panoramic boat (i.e Red sea trip + Dinner)
DVD recording of the course practical sessions
Certificate of attendance (with 30 CME hours from the Saudi Council of Health Specialties)
A souvenir gift from SPTA-WRC
For outsiders, a very specials discount will be provided for accommodations. You will have the choice to choose between five-star hotels or luxurious furnished apartments. Room pooling can be arranged. Transportation can be arranged for some hotels. Call the course coordinator for these options
